Kill la Kill Episode 25

[RAW]_Kill_la_Kill_-_25_[BD][h264-720p][AAC][785B99A5].mkv_snapshot_05.27_[2014.09.05_18.18.17]A year later, I guess this is really the end now. Blurays and batches may or may not come, depending on if unit_zero_fun comes back to us. On that note, thanks to _ar for encoding and typesetting that one sign, and Jing for the QC. Everything else you can blame on me.

We will only be releasing a 720p version because the source is ~540p, plus making a good-looking 1080p would result in 6gb an episode.

Edit: There’s a font missing. I guess there’s a reason to make a batch now.

Really appreciate this.. but the source is not 540p. Why would they use a large canvas size greater than 1080p for the animation cells (the sakuga/scanned in frames; the CG production; see behind the scenes footage) and then render all of that work that they did in 1080p out to 540p?

I hope people realize you absolutely cannot determine source resolution just by downscaling then upscaling.

When I said source, I meant line art. True, the grain, CGi, and backgrounds all have their own resolutions. It doesn’t change the fact that a decent 1080p rip would be some ridiculous size like this because removing grain is just not okay.

BTW, I think you should see my reply here:

I think you might be surprised 🙂

Notwithstanding the fact that with the grain fx, yes 1080p would be huge

And another followup post awaiting moderation there, but you’ll see what I mean

        • shark0week0 says:

Yeah, I realize that I was dumb when I said that. What it boils down to is 1080 rips would be powers more difficult to do for everyone involved (encoding of course, but also redoing typesetting that already took me months to do in the first place because I suck) for very little gain. We’ll never really know the truth about the resolutions unless the studio outright says it, I guess.

The bottom line is we won’t be doing 1080 rips (I don’t know if you were asking for that from us specifically). I don’t have the time to redo the entire series from scratch, and no one better seems to want to use our subs (or do 1080 rips) so if that’s what you want, you’ll have to do the hard work yourself. Or buy the discs and not worry about stupid people on the internet messing with things they shouldn’t be.

Nyaa is down again, could you post the magnet?

Any patch to fix the missing font issue? Or at least a link to the font so that we can remux it ourselves.

So is a BD version never coming then?

    • shark0week0 says:

This is from a BD source, though.

      • James says:

I’m sorry, I wrote that out in an unclear manner.

Do you have plans to release the rest of the season in BD?

        • shark0week0 says:

Stalled at a certain smelly QC. Been pushing harder for progress recently, but I wouldn’t expect them for a long time yet.

  6. James says:

Oh that’s good to hear, I’ve already watched in once of course, so I’m in no rush, I’m just looking forward to being able to archive your subs with a BD release for future re-watches. It’s definitely a show I will want to revisit.
